Progress report

I think it's time to tell / show what I've been working on lately.

Reworks

I spent quite a bit of time reworking some rather minor systems and moving them from events into scripts. This was done for two reasons. First, scripts in RMXP are much faster than events. Second, scripts are just text and can be worked with like you would expect. Jumping to lines, searching for words, replacing words and so on.

The biggest system I changed in this way was the initial weekly dialogue, where your main character picks a random topic and says something depending on values related to that topic. For example, if your smithing skill is 0, she will say something along the lines that she knows nothing about smithing and that maybe she should say more. This system is now faster and much easier to work with.

What's next

Next update will fully implement the scheduling system. I will do some balancing and changes, but I just want to say that this is your last chance to suggest any changes or report any bugs before this system becomes mandatory and it replaces the old way working and training worked.

As you probably guessed, very few jobs will actualy be unlocked at the start and you will have to unlock all of them as you play. This will bring some major changes to the way the game is played.

Most NPCs will not employ you at the start of the game. You will have to befriend them first and learn atleast the basics of their trade first. This required new system. Here is a preview:

Each NPC will now have a favor window. Favor equals to relationship value and is used for "buying" special items, jobs and features.

As you can see above, you will first have to ask Billy if you want to use his well and other stations. You will need certain relationship and skill level depending on the favor you want. Each favor you pick will take some points from you. The more you are liked by the NPC, the more points you will have.

There is still a lot of work to be done and it will take some time to finish and the game will be quite a bit different from earlier versions, but the wait should be worth it.
