About next update
Just wanted to say the update is still coming. This how I work on things pretty much. I spend quite a lot of time working on something for weeks non stop and then I take a break and focus on something different. In this case, I actualy played some videogames, started painting miniatures and I plan to return to airsoft again. But as I said before, I will never abandon this project.
Can't really say when the next update is going to release, but I made a list of things I want to add before releasing it. No point in releasing an update that adds something very minor.
In the last post, I talked about the problem of walking. This is something all games with open world suffer from and as far as I can tell, there is no universal good solution. Fast travel seems like a band aid to me, because it makes the open world pretty much pointless after a while since you will be fast traveling everywhere. The other option is to add random encounters. This is a good solution, but it can be overdone and unless you make like 100 encounters, they will start repeating.
The game already has fast travel. Two options in fact and I believe that this is necesary, since this game is pretty much about repetition and routine. Even with these two options, there is still a lot of walking to be done. In most maps, there is little danger or resourcess to collect while traveling. Solution to that should be events.
These events should adress another problem. Atributes don't really do anything on the overworld. They affect some quests and larger events, but I want them to do more than that.
I will be adding several small NPC groups to the overworld. These groups will be partialy random and will be in different spot every week. NPCs in these groups will have very simple skill checks for the player. Pass it and you gain one point in that skill. Fail and nothing happens.
Next thing I want to add are bandits. The ingame world is suposed to be harsh and deadly. These bandits will again be at random spots. They will demand money from you if they catch you. You pay and they let you go. Refuse, or have no money on you and they will fight you. This will be the basic framework which I will expand later with things like getting captured and breaking out of prison.
And lastly I will be adding bunch of miscellaneous events. Things like finding spot where small fight took place, finding someone injured who needs help, beggar who wants money,... Things like that.
That is basicaly it. Here is the list of things I want to do. I might add more things to it, but I will try really hard to not remove anything from it.
- Add more personal fast travel upgrades
- Add more resourcess to collect along major roads
- Add NPC camp spots
- Add bandit NPCs
- Add miscellaneous events
- Add some shortcuts that can be unlocked
